A brilliant trio of runners from Steve Asmussen’s stable started their Keeneland preparation for the Breeders’ Cup next month by working easy half-miles on their own early Sunday morning on a fast track.

Jackie’s Warrior was first, covering the distance in 49.8 seconds with exercise rider Wilson Fabian on. Jackie’s Warrior, a five-time Grade 1 winner, is regarded the likely favorite for the Sprint at Keeneland.

Fabian was riding Travers (G1) winner Epicenter in Asmussen’s following set, which finished the half-mile in 51.0 seconds. The Classic is being pointed to by Epicenter, generally considered as the top candidate for the 3-year-old male title.

Clairière, a two-time Grade 1 champion, worked a half-mile in 49.8 seconds with exercise rider Carmen Rosas aboard in the same set. Clairière, a 4-year-old filly who is one of the main candidates for the Eclipse Award as best older dirt female, is being aimed to the Distaff.

The three runners have won 19 graded stakes races, eight of which were Grade 1s, for a total of more than $7.6 million.
