Hypefest Hangzhou 2024: Uniting music, fashion, and culture in a summer festival

Hypebeast, the leading global platform for contemporary culture and lifestyle, held its third iteration of Hypefest at the Grand Canal Hangang Park in Hangzhou, China on August 10 and 11. Featuring performances by Offset, MASIWEI, Tinashe, and J.I.D, and collaborations with various brands, the event curated a two-day celebration that combined music, fashion, and culture, offering the Hypebeast community and festival-goers an innovative offline cultural experience.

Following the success of Hypefest Brooklyn in 2018 and Hypefest Aranya in 2023, Hypefest Hangzhou 2024 has once again bridged the local community with international music artists and fashion brands. It delivered an unforgettable moment for attendees and captured the vibrant essence of contemporary youth culture.

With hip-hop as the main axis, the event featured a lineup consisting of a diverse combination of 14 music acts while mixing music genres like R&B and Pop. On the first day of the event, the headline acts MASIWEI and J.I.D took the stage, accompanied by Vinida, Psy.P, BENZO, AnsrJ, and Veegee Xu. With MASIWEI closing the day with a surprise debut performance of his new single, “Passport,” the live atmosphere was pushed to a climax.

The second day was marked by Offset’s first show in China, where his live performances of “Bad and Boujee” and “ZEZE” were welcomed with excitement from the audience. Tinashe’s effortless transition from soulful pop ballads to dynamic dance numbers and Digi Ghetto’s unforgettable performance of “Heavy Rain” amidst the rain were also noteworthy moments. The day concluded with a six-hour audio-visual performance featuring artists including GALI, Awich, ØZI, and Tyson Yoshi.

In addition to the live performances, the festival grounds were filled with a myriad of onsite activities and interactive experiences, presented by brands such as Salomon, Oakley, UPON PRO, Snow Peak, New Era, and Magnum. Salomon, the title sponsor for Hypefest Hangzhou 2024, set up a Wild Amusement Park where guests indulged in summer beverages, claw machines, and dance arcades.

Moreover, Oakley showcased a selection of eye-catching offerings in the Oakley Hub — a sci-fi-esque pop-up booth displaying the classic and latest sports eyewear of the brand alongside footwear collaborations from its experimental branch, Oakley Factory Team, and Brain Dead. Meanwhile, UPON PRO’s Future Block pop-up offered an interactive space for visitors to browse the brand’s latest range, craft their own balaclavas, sip on drinks, and snap photos with the space’s overhead camera.

Across the site were canopies, tents, tables, and chairs exclusively provided by Snow Peak, which guests could use as leisure and resting areas during the two-day festival. Visitors could also win a 59FIFTY cap in a game of “Flingcap” at New Era’s bean bag-throwing game booth. The Joy Without Borders pop-up booth of Magnum supplied seasonal-flavored ice creams and offered guests cooling treats. Finally, ELECTRO X also provided a steady supply of electrolyte drinks and natural soda water on site, replenishing electrolytes and hydration for festival-goers.
