Hypebeast Flea Shanghai: A Gathering for Local Creatives in Shanghai

Hypebeast, the leading global platform for contemporary culture and lifestyle, hosted Hypebeast Flea Shanghai from September 7 to 8, 2024, at Taikoo Li in Qiantan, Shanghai. The 2-day event brought together over 30 local emerging brands, attracting thousands of fashion enthusiasts for an unforgettable weekend.

Hypebeast Flea provided a platform for carefully selected brands and creative talents to showcase their creations and exclusive products to the youth community in a marketplace centered on fashion and cultural experiences. All while promoting cultural conversation and collaboration among diverse and like-minded individuals. The event encompassed various fields, including fashion, creativity, music, art, and food, immersing attendees in a vibrant fashion marketplace.

The highlight of the event was the apparel and footwear booths featuring brands such as DOE, Hypebeast Staff Booth and HBX, KARMA8A, Loose End, Melting Sadness, METALBELLY, NOUVEAU PROJECT, RAGAZZO STRADA, Randomevent, and more. Footwear booths showcased local and international brands such as CHOCO CONCERT, Clarks Originals, and PANE, while some brands launched exclusive pieces specially created for the occasion, including a T-shirt from DOE and a tote bag from NOUVEAU PROJECT. Brands like METALBELLY and PANE also debuted new products and special collections at the event.

In addition, experience-oriented booths drew many fashion enthusiasts with their immersive interaction. Melting Sadness’s Karoro engaged the audience in a rock-paper-scissors game, while RAGAZZO STRADA offered fortune cookies and Randomevent provided a lucky draw for participants. HEADACHE invited masseurs to offer on-site “headache massages” and showcased themed merchandise. There were more brands bringing various interactive experiences which added fun to the event, such as the Hong Kong-style “pawn shop” provided by Oscar Wang’s OPEN WORK and the “Catch and Reel” fishing activity created by Round Two. Booths from COSMOS RETRO, GunC, and PRM explored the joy of discovering vintage and upcycled items, while the Hypebeast Staff Booth and HBX not only showcased selected products but also designed engaging games that attracted many participants.

In the arts and lifestyle zone, the avant-garde art group 998E displayed a series of cyberpunk futuristic gear, while PlasticFriends from Guangzhou presented a range of playful yet serious toys and artworks. RADICAL EYE’s “Lived-in Feel” space and HAOHAOLAUGH showcased unique collectibles from around the world. Music and books also had a presence at the event, with INSULAR RECORDS and THE MELTING POT offering a selection of vinyl records to satisfy music lovers. ONE HALF IN and TASCHEN created a quiet and diverse reading space.

For those passionate about handmade crafts, booths like ABAX, it doesnt matter, Jelly Muscle, LTDR, and PRM offered unique handcrafted experiences, along with various hands-on activities. In the workshop zone, Salomon and PRM collaborated on a sneaker customization workshop, while CHOCO CONCERT partnered with artist Zhi Lin to create a sneaker-to-handbag customization, letting participants learn more about remaking and upcycling. KARMA8A also hosted a sharing session focusing on rock climbing culture.

Throughout the event, food and beverages were provided by BAR LOTUS, EGGSOUL, GLORY BUTTER, SLABTOWN, and Daishaoshao, offering attendees a variety of choices. For music performance, GARDEN, INSULAR RECORDS, and others took turns providing live DJ performances, energizing the marketplace atmosphere. On the afternoon of the first day, the lively performance by the Coastal Surf Club, a surf rock band from Xiamen, ignited the crowd. After the event closure each night, the after-party sponsored by Budweiser and BAR LOTUS extended the high-energy atmosphere into the night with alcoholic beverages provided.
